What is Ramadan?
Ramadan is a time of fasting for Muslims, followers of the religion of Islam. During Ramadan is the 'night of power', which commemorates the first revelation of the Qu'ran (Koran) to the prophet Muhammad. Ramadan lasts for a month, and for those 30 days Muslims may not eat food during the hours of daylight. Children usually learn to fast by not eating for half a day at first.
A Muslim family celebrates the end of Ramadan, which is marked by the Islamic festival of Eid al-Fitr.
