Where is there an annual fishing festival?
An exciting fishing festival takes place each February at Argungu, in the West African country of Nigeria. The two-day festival marks the beginning of the fishing season in the region. Crowds line the banks of the River Sokoto to watch men and boys wade into the water with nets. They drive big fish into shallow waters, making them easier to catch. There are canoe races at the festival too.
Nigerian fishermen use the hollow shells of large gourds to catch and store fish.
