What was the Soviet Union?
The Soviet Union, or Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.), was a country made up of 15 republics, the biggest of which was Russia. The Soviet Union was formed in 1922, five years after the Communist Revolution. It split up into 15 separate countries in 1991.
