When was Israel founded?
In 1947 the United Nations voted to establish a Jewish state in the region then called Palestine. The modern State of Israel was founded the following year. The link between the Jewish people and the land of Israel dates back at least 4,000 years, but the area had been ruled in turn by Romans, Arabs, Crusaders, Turks and the British.
