Where was jazz music first played?
Jazz was first played in the United States, at the start of the 20th century. It became popular among black Americans, especially in New Orleans. In the 1920s jazz spread to other big cities, such as New York and Chicago. This new music mixed European harmony and melody with rhythms from Africa.
