What is animal mimicry?
Mimicry happens when one species of animal looks or behaves like another. There are many good examples of mimicry among butterflies. These creatures make tasty meals for birds, but some species avoid attack by being poisonous. They advertise the fact with bright colours, so birds learn to avoid them. Some non-poisonous butterflies mimic the colours and markings of the poisonous species so birds avoid them, as well. They also mimic the behaviour and flight patterns of their poisonous look-alikes.
