Why do some animals migrate?
|
Animals breed at times of year when food is in good supply. Birds that can fly strongly often move to areas far away to find food. Some seabirds that nest on islands in the southern oceans - for example, Shearwaters - abandon their breeding areas after the brief Antarctic summer. They fly north to the Atlantic and Arctic oceans, where the feeding is better at that time of year. Each year, their journeys cover tens of thousands of miles. | The great shearwater bird migrates |
