What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is a name used in ecology to describe a collection of plant and animal communities. A woodland is an example of an ecosystem; different plant and animal communities are found on the woodland floor, among bramble patches, and among the leaves of the trees. Within each community are populations of individual animals. There are lots of different ecosystems across the world, and together these make up the ecosphere.
