Has mankind changed the course of evolution?
Humans often affect the way that animals evolve. We have hunted many species to extinction. We have bred many species, like dogs, into shapes that we prefer. We have changed the environment by cutting down forests and building cities, thus favouring animals that can survive in a world full of buildings. For example, rats and other scavengers such as gulls and racoons have become urban-dwelling creatures.
Many clever animals have adjusted to life in cities and towns, feeding off our garbage.
