What is unusual about the seahorse?
|
The young of most fish develop outside the body of their mother. The female sheds her eggs into the water and the male sheds his sperm nearby. The sperm and eggs join and a fertilised egg is produced, which will then develop into a baby fish. The seahorse is unusual, however, because the fertilised eggs are stored in a special pouch on the male parent until they are ready to hatch. | The male seahorse gives birth to live young. |
