How do fish float?
|
Many fish have a swim bladder. This is a gas-filled sac inside the body of the fish that allows it to float. When a goldfish swims up to the surface of a pond to take in air, it is doing this not because it needs the air to breathe, but in order to fill up its swim bladder. The swim bladder allows the fish to hang suspended in the water while it uses its fins to manoeuvre. | Goldfish |
