What attracts sharks to their prey?
During the Second World War many sailors were told that sharks were cowardly creatures that could be frightened away by splashing. Although the sailors were told this to make them feel less frightened, sharks are, in fact, often attracted to splashing or other disturbances in the water. They are also attracted to the scent of blood. Scientists believe sharks sometimes attack humans because they mistake them for seals or other prey.
Sharks will go into a feeding frenzy if they scent blood in the water.
