Which animals replaced the dinosaurs?
After the last of the dinosaurs died out, 60 million years ago, and before humans evolved a million years ago, the Earth was ruled by mammals and birds. Some of these reached extraordinary sizes. There were giant, hornless rhinoceroses with long, giraffe-like necks; and 2 metres high flightless, meat-eating birds, such as Diatryma, with its ripping beak.
