The green leaves of the cuckoo pint plant
The green colour of a plant is caused by the green pigment chlorophyll, which allows it to absorb light. Some plants, like dodder, suck food from the stems of other plants. They do not need to absorb light themselves. Their leaves are colourless instead of green.
