How does a hare keep cool?
|
The large ears of the hare help it to listen out for any sign of danger. They also help it to keep cool. As the hare's hot blood flows beneath the thin skin of its ears, heat is rapidly lost to the surrounding air. This is why hares that live in hot climates have particularly large ears, while hares that live in cold places, for example the Arctic hare, have relatively small ears. | The hare's large ears help it to keep cool. |
