How does a bat find its way in the dark?
Most bats live in dark caves and only fly out to feed at night. They manage to navigate in the dark, and to find night-flying insects to feed on, by using a sonar system. As a bat flies along, it sends out a series of high-pitched sound pulses. It uses its large ears to detect the echoes from these pulses as they bounce back off surrounding objects in its path.
A bat's wings are made from leathery flaps of skin.
