Are there different types of goldfish?
Goldfish were originally bred from wild carp. They have been kept as pets for hundreds of years and there are now over 150 different types. The common form of the goldfish is golden-orange all over. Sometimes a fish with unusual colours or fins appears, however. By only allowing similar-looking fish to breed together, fish keepers are able to produce more of these unusual-looking goldfish.
Apart from the true goldfish, the best-known types are the Shubunkin, the Lionhead, and the Veiltail.
