How did the Persian cat get its name?
Persian cats were first bred in Europe in the 1800s from cats that were imported from Persia (now Iran) and from Angora in Turkey. It is the most popular and best-known breed of long-haired cat and is famous for its long, silky coat. The breed typically has rather short legs, a powerful body and a broad head. Persian cats are often black and white, but other colours are also popular among cat owners.
