What is a toadstool?
A toadstool is the spore-producing body of a fungus. It produces millions of spores that are carried by the wind. If they land in a suitable area, the spores will grow to form a new fungus. There are many different sorts of toadstools. Some look like edible mushrooms and have gills or pores under the cap from which the spores drop. In puffballs, the spores are found inside the toadstool. They are puffed out when the puffball is knocked or hit by raindrops.
