Are mermaids real?
Museums used to display the preserved bodies of creatures that people believed were mermaids. Today we know that these mermaids were in fact fakes. They were made from the body parts of dead monkeys and dead fish stuck together. Some people think that when sailors first saw a sea cow, they mistook it for a woman with a fish's tail, and that this is how the legend of the mermaid began.
A sea cow is a sea mammal that feeds on plants using its muscular lips.
