How does the jet engine work?
|
The jet engine is the most efficient type of aircraft engine. Using jets, aircraft can fly higher, faster, and farther than with airscrews or turboprops. The jet works by sucking air in at the front and mixing it with flammable liquids. As the mixture burns, it produces gases that expand rapidly and are forced out of the rear of the engine. As the gases rush out, they push the engine, and the aircraft it powers, forward. As the gases leave the engine they turn turbines that power a fan, which sucks in air at the front. | The jet engine |
