What is VTOL?
The letters VTOL stand for Vertical Take-Off and Landing. Few aircraft are capable of VTOL, as it requires very powerful engines and lots of fuel. The most successful VTOL aircraft is the Harrier. This military jet is used for bombing targets on the ground and for attacking other aircraft. VTOL allows the Harrier to take off from ships or from small areas of flat ground.
