What happens at an oil refinery?
|
| A fractionating tower | At an oil refinery, crude oil is distilled in a process called fractionation. The oil is heated at the bottom of a tall column. Gas and light fuels like petroleum collect at the top, leaving heavy oils like bitumen to settle at the bottom.
