															What is glass made from?
														 |

Glass is made from sand, limestone, soda ash (sodium carbonate), and recycled waste glass. Boric oxide is added to make heat-resistant glass (called Pyrex). The ingredients are heated to a high temperature in a furnace until they melt together. The molten glass from the furnace cools to form sheets, or may be moulded to make objects such as bottles. | | Glass is used to make thousands of items, from window panes to aerial shields in space vehicles. |
