Can plastics be recycled?
Yes, one way of recycling waste plastic is by controlled burning. The plastic is fed into the top of a furnace and heated as jets of hot air are forced up through it. Half of the fuel gases produced are used to power the process. The remaining gases and liquids are used to make new plastics.
In the recycling process, plastics have to be burned carefully to prevent adding to air pollution.
