Where do comets come from?
|
Comets are bits of dust, ice and gas that are zooming through space. Astronomers think that there is a huge cloud of icy lumps beyond Pluto's orbit. When a lump is pulled from the cloud, it orbits around the Sun as a comet. We see comets when their orbits bring them close to the Sun. Some come close every few years, but others take thousands of years to return. | Halley's comet and the space probe Giotto |
