What are the Northern Lights?
Related Image
The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, is a greenish-blue glow of light that makes slowly changing patterns in the sky near the North Pole. It happens when electrically charged particles from the Sun (the solar wind) are drawn to Earth's magnetic poles. When they reach Earth's upper atmosphere they become trapped, bombarding the atoms there and emitting radiation.
