What is the Hubble telescope?
The Hubble Space Telescope is a reflecting telescope that orbits Earth as a satellite. It was launched by a space shuttle in 1990. Unfortunately, the main mirror, which is nearly 2.4 metres across, had a fault in its shape, and was not able to create clear images. It had to be repaired in space by a space shuttle astronaut. It now sends back amazing pictures of the stars, galaxies, and planets.
The Hubble Space Telescope's on-board computers control its cameras and send pictures back to Earth.
