Do space probes have engines?
|
Space probes can travel for years at tens of thousands of miles per hour, but they do not need engines because there is no air in space to slow them down. They are launched into orbit around Earth and then fired on paths that will enable them to intercept the planets they are to visit. They have small thrusters that send out streams of gas. Thrusters can slow a probe down, speed it up, or make it spin.
