Which metals did early Africans use?
|
Iron was used in Africa from about 200 BC, and copper from 500 BC. Beautiful statues were a special art form in the Benin Empire (1200-1700 AD) in West Africa. They were cast in bronze or brass. This one shows in detail a hunter returning home. He has an antelope slung over his shoulders with its legs tied.
