What was a ziggurat?
A ziggurat was an artificial hill built in a series of layers, or platforms. At the top was a temple. To build a ziggurat, huge mounds of clay were strengthened with reeds and covered with bricks. Ziggurats were built in the cities of Mesopotamia from about 2500 BC to 500 BC and in ancient New World civilisations.
