What were cylinder seals?
|
These were cylinders, generally made of stone, that were used to roll clay over such things as jars, or locks to storehouses, to seal them. The cylinders were generally carved with a design. This meant that a pattern was produced when the clay was rolled out. Writing was often carved onto cylinders so that it could be transferred to clay tablets.
