How do newts find their way home?
|
Newts such as the smooth newt and the red-spotted newt spend much of their lives on land but return to water to breed. They often find the pond where they themselves were spawned. Most species use taste and smell to help them navigate. A few species also use the Sun or the Earth's magnetism to check the direction they are travelling in.
