How do hummingbirds eat?
Hummingbirds, such as the sword-billed hummingbird, feed on insects and flowers. They poke their long, thin bills and long, tube-like tongues into the flower and suck up the nectar. To do this, the birds have to hover in mid-air. They can beat their wings up to 70 times every second. This makes the humming noise that gives them their name. Hummingbirds can also fly backward.
