What is acid rain?
|
Factories and power stations release harmful chemicals into the atmosphere. Some, such as sulphur, fall to the ground as tiny particles. The rest are dissolved by the moisture in the atmosphere. When it rains, these chemicals come down, too. This is called acid rain. It damages trees and other plants, and poisons the soil. Eventually acid rain drains into rivers and lakes, where it kills many fish.
