How are beef and dairy cattle different?
|
Dairy cattle, such as the Friesian and Dairy Shorthorn, are lighter in build than beef cattle. The udders are big so that they can hold large volumes of milk. Before a dairy cow can produce milk, she has to give birth to a calf. After the birth, she continues to produce milk for up to 10 months or so. Dairy cows are usually milked twice a day.
