How does a butterfly begin its life?
|
A butterfly begins life as an egg on a leaf. Out of the egg comes a tiny caterpillar (or larva), which eats the leaf and grows very fast. The caterpillar grows a hard covering and turns into a pupa (or chrysalis). After several days, or even weeks, the pupa case splits open and the butterfly crawls out. As soon as its wings have dried, it can fly away.
