How does a camel survive in the desert?
|
|
Camels can go for weeks without drinking. They lose very little water from their sweat or urine. The camel's fur coat protects it from the heat of the Sun, and it can close its nostrils to keep out sand and dust. Wide feet help it walk over soft sand without sinking. Despite popular belief, camels do not store water in their humps. The humps are used to store fat, which is used for food.
