How did budgerigars get their name?
|
Budgerigars derived their name from the Australian Aboriginals. The Aboriginals like to catch and eat this wild bird, so they call it 'betcherrygah', which means 'good cockatoo'. Budgerigars are popular as cage birds. They are brightly coloured and can be taught to mimic the human voice.
