Which was the earliest known bird?
The Archaeopteryx was a bird that lived about 150 million years ago. It looked like a small dinosaur but was covered with feathers. It also had wings which it spread for gliding through the air. Nobody knows for sure whether it could fly properly. Unlike today's birds, Archaeopteryx had three claws on each wing, which it used for climbing trees. It also had teeth and a long tail covered with feathers.
