What is erosion?
Erosion is the breaking down of solid rock into smaller particles, which are then carried away. Wind, water, gravity, sea, and rain are common natural causes of erosion, and so is ice. The frozen ice in the glacier carves U-shaped valleys as it moves slowly downhill. Most mountain valleys are formed in this way. Today, human activity also causes damaging erosion.
