How does a combine harvester work?
|
A combine harvester does nearly all the jobs in harvesting a cereal crop. At the front is the big pick-up reel. This pulls the crop into the cutter bar. The cut cereal is pushed by a rotating screw onto an elevator, which takes it to the threshing area. This rotates very fast and separates the grain from the stalks. The grain is stored in a bin. When the bin is full, the grain is unloaded into a truck. The stalks are pushed out of the back of the harvester onto the ground.
