How is energy released inside a nuclear reactor?
|
A slow-moving neutron is made to hit an atom of uranium-235. It combines with the nucleus at the centre of the atom, forming uranium-236. This splits into two particles called fission fragments, releasing a burst of energy and three more neutrons, which split more uranium atoms.
