What is paper made from?
Most paper is made from wood. The wood is ground up or mashed into pulp using chemicals. The pulp is beaten so that the tiny wood fibres separate and soften. Then it passes onto a belt of wire mesh. The water drains through the mesh, and the pulp (now called the web) is squeezed first between heavy rollers and then between heated rollers. The dried and finished paper is wound onto reels.
