Which were the largest steam trains ever?
|
The largest steam locomotives ever built were five giants called Big Boys. They were built in the 1940s for the Union Pacific Railroad. The locomotive and its coal tender were almost 40 metres long, 3 metres wide and 5 metres high. They each weighed 600 tonnes. They pulled up to 4,000 tonnes of freight in the Rocky Mountains.
