How do racing pigeons find their way home?
|
Racing pigeons and many other species of birds probably use more than one way of navigating. They can find their direction from the position of the Sun by day and the stars by night. They can also detect changes in the Earth's magnetic field as they fly over it. This tells them whether they are flying north, south, east, or west. Some birds find their way by smell.
