How do we taste and smell?
|
In the upper part of the nose are tiny scent receptors. When we sniff, molecules in the air are carried to these receptors. They sense what we are smelling. The tongue is covered with about 9,000 taste receptors, or taste buds. These sense what we are tasting. The taste buds are grouped in special areas on the tongue. Sweetness is tasted at the front, saltiness and sourness at the sides, and bitterness at the back.
