How does a baby develop during pregnancy?
A baby's life begins when a male sperm joins a female egg. The sperm travels from a man into a woman's body. It joins with the egg to form a single cell, and starts to grow. After a week, the single cell has multiplied to more than 100 cells. After eight weeks, the baby has all its major organs (such as heart, liver, and lungs). The baby gets its food from its mother through the umbilical cord. After nine months, the baby is about 50 centimetres long. It is ready to be born.
