When did people first land on the Moon?
The Apollo 11 spacecraft took off in July 1969. It was carried by a huge Saturn rocket for the first stage of its journey. Shooting out of Earth's orbit, Apollo travelled to the moon. The lunar module separated and landed on the Moon's surface. Two of the crew, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, became the first people to walk on the moon.
