How did the Sun and planets form?
|
Nobody knows for sure. Most scientists think that the Sun, Earth and other planets (the Solar System) were formed from a mass of dust and gas. Nearly 5,000 million years ago, this mass started to shrink, and then spin and flatten into a disk. The centre of the disk spun fastest. This became the Sun. The rest of the material turned into the planets. | Like other stars, the Sun is a vast ball of gas with no solid surface. |
